Today’s sermon was about grace.  It was powerful and relevent, and God spoke clearly to me about a situation in my life through the speaker and through His word.  But another powerful principle relating to worship was mentioned shortly while some youth were talking about their mission trip.  This is the principle as I remember it:

“Worship is more than just songs and music.  If our lives do not reflect the truth that we talk and sing about, then God doesn’t really care about our songs.”

That’s convicting as a worship leader.  My job and my passion is the lead people in worship and to provide an environment in which people can connect with God and offer themselves to Him.  This doesn’t require music, but music is an awesome way to take the truth that’s in our heads and express it spiritually and emotionally. This is one way that I’ve found to worship God in Spirit and in Truth.

More importantly, though, is our daily worship.  It’s the worship that we give as we work, as we have conversations, as we dream and vision, as we choose how to spend our free time.  If we aren’t worshiping God with our lives, I don’t think He cares much about our songs.

One Response to “worship that God cares about”

True worship is a state of life and from this position music and song come forth from a spirit and soul bursting to exspress Christ in us. Worship in spirit and truth produces an intimacy of oneness with God more wonderfull more changing then when a man and a woman unite as one flesh . Worshiping with the Spirit transcends life ,time and space, it is the acknowledgement of Christ living in us and we living in Christ. It is the closest I can comprehend to true agape love. God is love, we were created to have this aspect of God. We were created to worship God as our highest function. To love God is to worship God is to love God.
